Remote CNC Debugging vs. On-Site Support: What Your Shop Actually Needs

CNC Expert Solution · Technical Guide

Most CNC and post processor problems can be solved remotely — and remotely is almost always faster. But there are situations where being physically at the machine actually matters. Knowing which one you're dealing with saves time and money.

When remote support is the right call

Post processor bugs, G-code errors, CAM configuration issues, alarm diagnosis, and most tool path problems can be debugged over a screen share or by reviewing files sent via DNC — no travel required, and turnaround is typically hours rather than days. This covers the majority of the technical problems shops bring to us.

What we need from you for remote debugging

When on-site support makes more sense

Complex multi-axis setups where physical machine calibration is involved, machine retrofits where controller hardware itself is changing, and first-article sign-off on a new production job where physical verification of the cut part matters more than the code. In these cases, a screen share can't replace hands-on measurement and adjustment.

First-article sign-off

For new production jobs, particularly on 5-axis or multi-tool setups, we can be on-site (where available) or work with your operator in real time remotely to verify the first cut part against spec before you commit to a full run.

Response times

Remote support requests are typically answered within 2–4 hours. If a machine is stopped and production is waiting, mark the request as urgent — we prioritize live-down situations.
